We warmly welcome you to the Department of Botany, at the beautiful and heart-touching semi-natural campus of Jahangirnagar University. This department was established in 1986 with the vision of developing a centre of excellence in higher education and research in Plant Science to produce quality manpower to serve the nation through contributions in various sectors, especially food security and plant resource-based sustainable development of the country. Currently, this department offers B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Plant Science, maintaining international standards. This department has already produced more than 1200 graduates and awarded 86 Ph.D. and 11 M.Phil. degrees.

We always like to encourage and cooperate with our students to gain current knowledge in all disciplines of plant science, to learn basic and modern research methodologies, to improve their writing, communication, and presentation skills, and to conform as sincere, dedicated, competent, and skilled manpower to meet the needs of national and international stakeholders. We have developed a strong platform of quality teaching-learning, good governance, teamwork, interpersonal relationships, and institutional mechanisms to build up leadership qualities in students with strong common sense and personalities. We have a team of interactive, high-spirited, and cordial faculty in this department, all of whom have advanced degrees and training from world-renowned universities. We endorse national and international partnerships with academic and research institutions at home and abroad. We have already produced a good number of high-quality graduates who are serving in most of the prestigious professions in this country and contributing to different national and international research institutions.
