PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Md. Atiqur Rahman joined Jahangirnagar University in 2015 as a lecturer and currently holds the position of Associate Professor. He is interested in both qualitative and quantitative research in the field of auditing, corporate governance, and corporate finance. His recent studies however rely more on quantitative econometric analyses. His reserach contributions appeared in prominent international journals like International Journal of Disclosure and Governance, International Journal of Managerial and Financial Accounting, Global Business and Economics Review, Financial Studies, Asian Journal of Accounting Research, The Indonesian Journal of Accounting Research to name a few. He is also working as a principal investigator of a project funded by the University Grants Commission, Bangladesh.
Atiqur completed Master's in Science with major in Finance from the University of Strathclyde, UK and was recognized for best overall performance in finance from Strathclyde Business School, one of the global leading schools of finance. He achieved the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship through an international open competition in 2020 to pursue the MSc. Atiqur accomplished MBA and BBA in Accounting & Information Systems from the University of Dhaka before joining Jahangirnagar University. For academic excellence, he was awarded four awards (Dean's Honor Award and Dean's Merit Award in both BBA and MBA) from the University of Dhaka.
Currently he is pursuing PhD at Griffith University, Australia. His research investigates the nexus among financial and environmental crime, and accountability.

I am pursuing PhD in climate finance and accounting with a particular focus on financial and environmental crimes. During this study, I am working closely with the Griffith University Academy of Excellence in Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance (AEFCIC), and a group of experts including a climate finance specialist, an economist, and an accounting scholar.
Two prestigious scholarships—the Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUPRS) and the Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUIPRS)—fully fund my study.

I completed my MSc in finance from Strathclyde Business School (SBS). After completion of MSc, I was recognized for best overall performance in finance.
MSc in finance of SBS is globally recognized as one of the top finance training programs. SBS is ranked by Financial Times as one of the top business schools around the world.
I was a recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Shared Scholarship during this study. Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship provided jointly by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) and the host university. Scholars have to go through an international open competition to be selected for the scholarship and CSC and the host university jointly select the recipients.

I completed both Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a major in Accounting and Information Systems, from the University of Dhaka.
For extraordinary academic performance, I received the Dean's Honor Award and Dean's Merit Award in both BBA and MBA.

This project, funded by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, being the pioneer in the field and based on a global dataset, attempts to investigate impact of women empowerment in firms, loan collateralization, firm maturity, external audit in economies, sales growth, accounting disclosure, and governance on NPL in an economy. I also aim to assess the relevance of the findings for the policymaking in Bangladesh through expert interviews.
