Dr. Md. Tajuddin Sikder is a distinguished Environmental Health Scientist, currently serving as a Professor and Former Chairman of the Department of Public Health and Informatics at Jahangirnagar University. He earned his PhD in 2013 from the Graduate School of Environmental Science at Hokkaido University, Japan, and later completed the prestigious JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) postdoctoral fellowship at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Hokkaido University, in 2018.
Dr. Sikder has a rich academic and research background, having been a postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate School of Environmental Science in 2016 and a visiting researcher at the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2015 under the Heiwa Nakazima Foundation. His primary research interests revolve around understanding the health impacts of environmental pollution and designing innovative remedial options. In the field of remediation, he has developed effective technologies for decontaminating surface and groundwater.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sikder has conducted extensive research on the similarities, gaps, and status of surface water, providing a comparative view between developed and developing countries. He has completed several projects and made significant contributions to Environmental Health and Environmental Medicine. Currently, his research focuses on evaluating food toxicity and its associated health impacts.
Dr. Sikder has a prolific publication record, with over 150 articles published in reputed journals. His dedication and contributions to environmental remediation earned him the Hokkaido University Environmental Science Award in 2016 (2nd Matsuno Award).
Prior to his current position, Dr. Sikder served as a faculty member in the Department of Environmental Science at Stamford University Bangladesh from 2009 to 2014. He received his B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from Jahangirnagar University in 2006 and went on to earn an M.Sc. from the same department in 2007. His academic achievements were recognized when he was awarded the JSPS-Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) scholarship from the Japanese Government to pursue his Ph.D. In 2012, he received the Excellent Researcher Award among all international students at Hokkaido University.
